River Morning
Sometimes you break a few rules, but I don’t take photography “rules” very seriously. To me, they are more like suggestions. In no particular order, “you don’t split the frame in half with the horizon”, except if you like it that way. The whole image has a blue cast which some might want to correct. At another time I might have wanted to as well, but it was as I saw it. The image seems soft. This was caused by a haze in the air, which contributed to the blue cast as well. I did like the soft focus look so, I kept that as well.
The scene is over looking the Red Deer River Valley from Dry Island Buffalo Jump near Trochu, Alberta.

Mancos Valley From 7875ft.
The road to Mesa Verde National Park leaves the valley floor near Mancos, Colorado and just goes up. There is a view point just before the highway turns inland towards the mesa top. This is part of what you can see from the viewpoint. Like the title says, we are at 7875’ elevation. The near ridge on the right is about 3 miles away and the snow capped peaks on the left are twenty miles distant. The air was cold and the wind brisk but invigorating. A great way to start a visit to another fantastic National Park.

That Oldman River
The fog changes the quality of the light. It makes everything softer. It dampens sounds and makes the world a quieter place. You have to see deeper into the fog to make sense of what’s in front of you. As you move, things appear out of it, somehow disconnected from our normal reality. The fog makes you closer to yourself, closer to your inner vision.

Mancos Valley Autumn
Down in the Southwest corner of Colorado lies the Mancos Valley. It is situated between Durango and Cortez, near Mesa Verde National Park (our destination this day). This hillside which would be green in the spring and summer, was resplendent in the warm colours of fall.

Red Streak
The predawn light was still pretty dim, and the train engine had it’s headlights on. The shutter speed had to be quite slow at 2.5 seconds. The camera was panned with the movement of the train for a feeling of movement, with the trees and bushes turning into a green blur.
