Chronic Canoe

Chronic Canoe

Another shot from my friend Neil Zeller’s photowalk. I was on the pathway on the north side of the river west of the Peace Bridge, when I saw the nice reflection from the street light on the water. I could see a canoe coming down river and wanted to include it. However, they stopped in the middle of the river, just to the right of the frame and weren’t going anywhere. Then I saw a small flame at one end followed shortly by another small flame at the other end of the canoe. Two large puffs of smoke later and the canoe was moving, allowing me to get my shot.

This Jack O’Lantern was standing guard at the Bridgeland Market. The creepy face is ready for Halloween!

Riverside Bungalow And Church

Riverside Bungalow And Church

I thought that the very angular nature of the Riverside Bungalow building contrasted nicely with the rounded domes of the church behind and up the hill from our Bridgeland location. The shot was taken on Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk, led, again, by my friend Gudrun. With the low contrast lighting, caused by the heavy overcast, juxtaposing the two differing shapes made sense to me.

I Gotta Be

I Gotta Be

Although I’m still posting images for Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk, and will be for a bit longer, the posts this week are all images which include fellow participants of the Calgary, Kensington walk.

At the street level of Poppy Plaza, the word Memorial is placed in 2 metre high welded steel letters. Previously, I had isolated the word “or”. When I saw someone photographing this lady, whose first name started with the letter M, I recognized the word “me” would make an interesting image.

The Old Firehall

The Old Firehall

The City has turned the area at 10th Street and Memorial Drive NW into something called Poppy Plaza. It seems fitting with the ideas of a memorial on Memorial Drive. They have created a open and usable public space on both sides of the north side of the Louise Bridge, with a walkway under the bridge. The old Fire Hall was converted into a City of Calgary Parks building.

One of the  photo walk participants was sitting at the top of the stairs looking for a new shot. I liked the warm light on the back of the brick building and all of the leading lines.
