Steam Motion
There really is nothing like standing next to one of these monsters. The piston fires and the flywheel spins, and the whole unit shakes. I hoped to convey some of the action by capturing some of the movement by blurring with a slow shutter.

Building A Head Of Steam
These old steam tractors are some of my favourite pieces of machinery. Standing next to one you can feel the power and the potential. I wanted to make the motion of the piston and flywheel visible, so I used a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second to get just a little bit of blur in the moving parts while keeping the boiler sharp on a handheld shot. I hadn’t noticed the dust spots on the lens and didn’t want to try to clean them all up, so I decided to leave them in and go for a more old timey image.

Old Time Harvest
I definitely need to spend more time at Pioneer Acres next year for their Annual Show & Reunion in Irricana, Alberta.
Old Steam Tractors
This old Rumely Oil Pull tractor is still running as it makes it round in front of the grandstand.
Fabulous Steam Friday, On Film
Back in 1999, Sherri and I travelled to Stettler, Alberta to take a trip on the Alberta Prairie Railway.
