Remains Of Autumn
Deep in the foothills, west of Turner Valley, in Sheep River Provincial Park, fall comes early to this part of Kananaskis Country. In the brief period between the falling of the leaves and the flying of the snow, patches of trees are less willing to lose their foliage. A small grove faces a lone tree across a valley.

The Woods
A simple shot of aspen trees in the Alberta foothills, after the leaves had fallen. I converted it to black and white to emphasise the starkness of the scene. The light coloured trunks with the dark markings lend themselves to a monochrome medium.

A Tree Dies In The Forest
On a foggy morning in the Cypress Hills, we were wandering through the forest. I came across this fallen aspen tree. The triangular shape was repeated behind it in the spruce tree.

Sam’s Ten Tips–#10–Prairie Wind
Earlier this year I attended an Oopoomoo.com workshop in Trochu, Alberta at the historic St Ann Ranch. The workshop was named Badlands, Buicks and Old Buildings and our instructors were Darwin Wiggett and Samantha Chrysanthou. One of Sam’s presentations was called Ten Tips. Here’s my take on her exercises.
Prairie Wind
The wind is almost a constant companion on the prairies, so don’t fight it – work it! Put on a solid neutral density filter at midday to increase the colourful blur of the wind rippling through tall grasses and crops.
