Pastel Sunset
The sky often colors up in the opposite direction from the sun at sunset. The light and hues are often quite subtle and not as bright as toward the sun. This is the sky near Merritt, BC and the Nicola Valley.

The Open Road Beckons
Highway 5A north of Merritt, British Columbia, Canada is one of my favorite drives.
Nicola Hills
Driving up the Nicola Valley between Merritt and Kamloops, BC, Canada, you can look across at the opposite side and see the grooves and channels created by the years of erosion. They are enrobed in a mixture of grass and trees. The ground cover is now turning green with the spring rains. in the heat of the summer the grasses will turn a golden yellow brown as they dry out, but the wrinkles and lines created by seasonal streams and rivulets will still be visible.

Cool Nicola Afternoon
Travelling the 5A highway between Merritt and Kamloops, British Columbia there is some excellent high country grasslands. The hills are veined with ravines. The land is sculpted by centuries of erosion, but it’s hard to show the marvellous lines and curves that run up and down the Nicola Valley. An overcast day and thick clouds helped to show the golden colors in a nicely saturated way. I like the way the highway forms an S curve into the image. The fence and power poles form multiple repeating patterns that also lead your eye into the center of the frame where the lines in the hill can be seen. Even the heavy overcast day wasn’t all that bad.
Do you have trouble with “bad light”, or like Samantha Chrysanthou , do you believe there is no bad light?
