Box Canyon Falls

Box Canyon Falls

Tucked into a tiny corner, hidden just off of the Coquihalla Highway, there is a little water feature that is one of my favourites.

Cataract On The Coquihalla

Cataract On The Coquihalla

Hopefully spring will actually arrive here, only three weeks after the official start of spring. I reprocessed this older file because it had kind of a spring feeling to it. I liked the freshness of the water and the young foliage in the bottom corner. A slower shutter speed allowed me to smooth the water and better show the flow lines. The image is held together by the solidity and detail in the rocks.

Another image from a few years ago recently reprocessed. This waterfall is in a hidden location just off of the Coquihalla Highway.

Autumn Mountainside

Autumn Mountainside

As winter seems to currently have us in it’s icy grip, I thought I’d post a few of my fall colour images this week.

Along the Coquihalla Highway, below the Great Bear Snowshed, the old slide paths have been cleared of large trees by previous avalanches. The shrubs that grow back quickly have brilliant fall colors. The small seasonal waterfall provides a nice accent to the bright foliage. For some reason, I can’t seem to find the name of this mountain ridge between Box Canyon and the snowshed.

Yak Peak

Climbing the Coquihalla Highway up from the lower mainland, you can see this imposing sight near the summit of the Coquihalla. Again with the limited light on the mountain face. I shot 2/3 stop underexposed to keep the white snow from blowing out. Regular snow slides keep the rock face clear of vegetation, which has a hard time rooting on the bare rock.
