Autumn Road

Autumn Road

There are far worse things to do than travelling down side roads in the fall and see the coloured foliage. I found it interesting that the trees facing us on the left have lost their leaves but the ones farther in the grove and along the road have retained theirs. The gravel road tops a small rise and disappears into the distance.

Remains Of Autumn

Remains Of Autumn

Deep in the foothills, west of Turner Valley, in Sheep River Provincial Park, fall comes early to this part of Kananaskis Country. In the brief period between the falling of the leaves and the flying of the snow, patches of trees are less willing to lose their foliage. A small grove faces a lone tree across a valley.

The Woods

The Woods

A simple shot of aspen trees in the Alberta foothills, after the leaves had fallen. I converted it to black and white to emphasise the starkness of the scene. The light coloured trunks with the dark markings lend themselves to a monochrome medium.

Straight Cut Barley

Straight Cut Barley

Another day, another field, this time barley with the cutting header. The chaff falls behind the combine with the light breeze unable to carry much away.

Vermillion Lakes Autumn

Vermillion Lakes Autumn 2

This an older shot that I might have posted before in another incarnation. I’ve reprocessed it using the DeHaze tool in Lightroom and it’s brought out more definition in the clouds. Keeping with my autumn theme of the last two weeks, the grasses have turned color and the aspens to the right of the truck are near the same ones from my September 25th post. My favourite details in this image are the larches in their fall colours high on the slopes of Sundance Peak.
