Mountain Light

“My first thought is always of light” Galen Rowell

Please forgive the obvious reference to the late great Galen Rowell. Back in the 1980’s when I was trying to get serious about my photography, I would see his name in nearly every magazine that I picked up. It made me pay attention to what he was doing. And what he was doing was paying attention to the light.

I spotted this saddle in the Ottertail Range in Yoho National Park near Field, British Columbia. The afternoon light brushed across the contours, casting deep shadows in the crags.

In the best light…

  2. Galen Rowell was a fantastic photographer. He also was willing to share his knowledge in books, lectures and over a cup of coffee. His books weren’t about hyping himself. They were good reads full of useful information. He left us way too soon and even today is missed by many inside and outside the photographic community.

Your Stentorian Image is darn right beautiful. Yes, you captured the light perfectly.
