Nearly everyone who photographs near the town of Banff, in Banff National Park, shoots Mount Rundle from Vermillion Lakes.
It’s one of my favorite shooting locations, not only because it’s easy to access, but because you rarely leave without at least one keeper. I have shots at all times of the day, and even after sunset. The only thing that I still want to do here is a night shoot. Even after that happens, I’ll still return to this location because it always changes.
After you’re done shooting the grand scenic image, don’t be a Trophy hunter, stick around and find some details that interest you. After the ice melted, the lake level dropped and refroze. The resulting ice shelf made an interesting form that just needed to be framed.
In the best light…
