The City At Night
Looking over the downtown area of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I noticed that the constellation Orion was hanging above the Calgary Tower. In order to get the stars in the sky to show up, I used a graduated neutral density filter that was mounted upside down to reduce the exposure of the lights of the office buildings.
Remember to keep your exposure under 45 seconds so that the apparent movement of the moon doesn’t show up as star trails.
Later we moved downtown where I grabbed this image right on Centre Street. The glare from the oncoming car headlights creates neat flares. Only the people standing still for long enough were captured in this exposure.
