Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

Morning Stroll

The elephants at the Calgary Zoo have always been one of the most favorite exhibits at the Zoo for my wife and me.

We used to go more often when we lived in the city, and we especially liked going during the week if we had time off. Sherri could watch them for hours. One time she was standing by the edge of the outdoor enclosure with her arm extended and slowly waving it in front of her, the elephant was across the moat with it’s trunk extended, waving it towards her. Unfortunately this happened during the time when I was on a photography hiatus, and I have no record of the event.

Back To Back

Last April the Zoo announced that the elephants would be leaving us. I suppose this is being done for the betterment of all of the elephants at the Calgary Zoo, and it won’t happen for a few years. Having some history makes it hard to say goodbye. We’ll be sad to see them go.

In the best light…
