The Redpolls Are Here
The cold weather has brought all of the little bird to the feeders. Around our place the Redpolls come when the weather is the coldest.
The –20 to –30c weather that we had been having was too cold for me to be standing outside waiting for the birds to settle down. But when the weather “warmed” up to –7c, I got dressed up, stuffed a spare battery into my pocket and hung out around the bird feeders. By being still, you become part of the scenery and our feathered friends return to feeding. Don’t forget the ground feeding birds. It’s amazing how they blend into the background with their coloration.
The small birds are very fast and so I attached my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8. It is my sharpest, fastest focusing lens. The birds seemed to startle when I was using High Speed Continuous, so I switched to Quiet mode on my Nikon D300s.
In the best light…
