Best Twelve Of 2012

As usual, I’m ending this year with a roundup of what I consider to be my best images of the year.

McDougall Sign

February starts our little trip down memory lane with a day trip to Canmore. We stopped on our way out and back at the McDougall Church near Morley, Alberta.

Tiger In The Snow

March saw a group of us getting together at the Calgary Zoo. I love this image of the tiger in the snow. I am quite happy with the fine detail in his face. We are hoping to go again early next year. Drop me a line if you are interested in joining us.

Pink Bike

This image is from a photo walk on a cold April day. I liked the bright pink against the stark grey of the rest of downtown Calgary.

The Road To Stump Lake

May was wet and led to a bright green June on Highway 5A in the Nicola valley. The overcast sky gave excellent saturation in the grasses and hills.

Near Waldron Ranch

The wet spring also greened the Alberta prairies here on Highway 22 looking south towards the Crowsnest.

Mossy Walkway

The Canada Day July long weekend saw me on a trip to Vancouver Island. This is Cathedral Grove near Port Alberni, BC.

Fraser Valley Sunrise

Later in July, I witnessed a spectacular sunrise in the Fraser Valley near Chilliwack, BC.

Aspen Grove

Near the end of July we hosted another photowalk at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. I found this grove of sparkling white aspens on a hill side.

Stormy Banff

On the last day of July, I came into Banff with a gigantic storm over head. I recorded mammatus clouds for the first time.

Checking The Harness

In August, we went to Pioneer Acres in Irricana, Alberta for their annual reunion. We saw old time farm equipment and horse drawn implements.

Hybrid Cosmos Daisy

Later in August, I attended an Oopoomoo workshop with Darwin Wiggett and Samantha Chrysanthou in Trochu, Alberta at St. Ann Ranch. I think this might be one of my finest flower pictures.

Inukshuk Afternoon

September found me at another photo walk, this time at Waterton Lakes National Parks. I shot this image at Cameron Lake.

I’m looking forward to the photographic opportunities that 2013 has to offer. Wishing you another great year of great images.

In the best light…

  2. Gorgeous collection John! Love the mammatus clouds, quite impressive. I also love the man with the horse, and your reflection of the trees on the lake.
    Happy holidays!

  3. Love your use of leading lines to draw us into your images. Cathedral Grove has got to be my favorite. Cheers!
