Photography and commentary from John Fujimagari



At a recent family reunion, I was asked to take some group pictures. I also took some images of individuals, including my cousin Mike.

I liked the way the light is coming in from both sides, more from the rear on the left. The main side light creates shadows that adds drama.


My brother-in-law Scott rarely looks this serious at a party. He’s usually socializing with a beverage in hand, laughing at a joke. Catching him standing still was a matter of good timing on my part. I thought the expression was more suitable in monochrome. The sepia toning slightly warms the image.


My niece Sidney is a great subject to photograph. She has a twinkle in her eyes that makes me think she’s up to something.
