Moonrise At Scott Lake Hill

Moonrise has long been a special time to me

Since seeing Ansel Adams’ Moonrise, Hernadez (New Mexico) when in High School, the rising of the moon has been as important to me, photographically, as the rising of the sun. The above image was taken as the sun was setting and the moon just appearing over the horizon. The warm direct light on the vehicles skims the roadway and blasts back from the reflective road signs. The moon itself looks orange coming through the haze.

Always one of my favorites of Ansel’s images, I recently came across a video of an interview with Michael Adams (Ansel’s son) recalling the day out with his Dad and making the negative to this classic photo.
