Winter Colors

Golden Grain Bins

Sometimes it seems that the colors that I see in the winter are different than the colors that I see in the summer. I don’t know if that is true, but to me, I think that there is certainly a more subtle quality of light.

The sun never gets really high in the sky in the winter in Western Canada, so some evenings you get a longer “Golden Hour”.

Signs

I deliberately placed the sun behind the yield sign to reduce the hot spot from the direct sun. To me, the signs as a silhouette makes a more dramatic statement. The warmth of the setting sun can’t touch the snow in the shadows, which are rendered an icy blue color.

I would agree requarding the light. The snow reflects and changes it. If you go outside at night in the winter you will certainly notice how much lighter it is.

  2. I love those colors in Your photos. It is “funny” how sun can have so different color variations. In the North this comes true in winter.

Thank You presenting these. Happy weekend.
