The Spooky House

Travelling with Darwin Wiggett, Samantha Chrysanthou, and Branimir Gjetvaj on their Extreme Saskatchewan photo tour has been an exercise in anticipation. What with the record rainfalls, and near torrential downpours, I’m amazed we got to do any photography! The leaders have been very flexible with the schedule, working inside when working outside would risk your equipment. When all of the outdoor locations were washed-out, we relocated to Maple Creek, where we were very nearly flooded out.

This was our very first rain free shooting location of the trip. It’s located south east of Leader, Saskatchewan. With the extra moisture, the grasses were absolutely lush and a vibrant green color, making a huge contrast with the old house.

I used the rented Tilt-Shift lens for perspective control and the Singh-Ray Vari-N-Duo to dampen the light for a long exposure. This made the grass blown by the wind to become blurred and softer, compared to the sharpness of the house. Rain or shine we’ve shot everyday. I’ve shot more this trip, a higher frame count, more keepers, and better quality images. It’s been Extremely Saskatchewan!
