In A Whirl

In A Whirl

Although there are challenges involved with working in groups, there are times when you don’t have enough hands or arms. If you were working alone you’d need a ton of stands and clamps and places to put them. Our lovely model Meg can be found at The Kraken Queen. Working with me on this shoot was Sheila Paulson and Denis Semenov of SDL Photo.

This assignment from Dave Brosha was motion with flash. We decided to go with a stroboscopic effect for multiple images on a timed exposure. Our setup had Sheila triggering all 3 of our cameras, with Denis strobing from the back and me from the front. I would have liked a little more back light, enough to create a rim light but I think the results are interesting.

A Mid Winter’s Night Dream

A Mid Winter's Night Dream

I was lucky enough to attend a workshop put on by the amazing Dave Brosha. His Creative Bootcamp, for me was an intense two days of growth. I have taken pictures of people, though often reluctant, some times the subject and some times the photographer. This was my first time working with models. I had gone shooting landscapes with Dave a few times a I had always admired his personal projects, working with models and interesting people. When the opportunity to attend this workshop came up, jumped at the chance.

This was a demo set up by Dave, actually using my Nikon SB900 Speedlight on Repeat mode. Dave was shooting from 10 ft. to my right and back a bit. I shot from my seat using my Nikon P6000.

I Gotta Be

I Gotta Be

Although I’m still posting images for Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk, and will be for a bit longer, the posts this week are all images which include fellow participants of the Calgary, Kensington walk.

At the street level of Poppy Plaza, the word Memorial is placed in 2 metre high welded steel letters. Previously, I had isolated the word “or”. When I saw someone photographing this lady, whose first name started with the letter M, I recognized the word “me” would make an interesting image.

You’re On The Wrong Side

You're On The Wrong Side

I was walking with Gudrun, the group leader up the west side of 10th Street NW. We were informed that we were on the wrong side. Gudrun replied the better light was on that side.

People On The Street

Chillin'

As we were wandering up Stephen Avenue Walk taking pictures, I spotted this fellow just sitting on a bench having a smoke.
