Line In The Sky

Line In The Sky

As with my last post on Wednesday, this was shot from my set up on the sidewalk on in front of Canadian Tire in Canmore, Alberta. Mount Lougheed in the late afternoon was looking good. The vapour trail across the top of the sky made a nice accent to the image.

Mount Lougheed

Mount Lougheed Morning

We were on our way to Banff National Park one morning and I happened to glance over towards Mount Lougheed from the Trans-Canada Highway. The light was looking really nice but I wasn’t getting the angle that I wanted from the road level. So we took the Deadman’s Flats exit and headed up the hill. I pulled over on the side of the road and climbed the embankment on the other side of the road. There I found the angle that I was looking for and the light was great. The camera couldn’t capture the entire dynamic range in the scene, so I bracketed 3 exposures. I created a tone mapped image in Photomatix and finished the post processing in Nikon Capture NX2 with Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0. I often drive directly to Banff and ignore the great opportunities to capture wonderful scenes on the way there. This is a good reminder of the old saying “Getting there is half the fun”.

Are you missing excellent photo ops because you aren’t where you thought you were going?
